Norcross Elementary Physical Education
My name is Mr. A (Ken Almon), and I am the physical education teacher at Norcross Elementary School in Norcross, Georgia. I arrived at Norcross in 1984 and served 29 years as a fifth grade teacher. I am currently in my second year as head of the physical education department. My goal as Norcross Elementary School's physical education teacher is for kids to experience a life full of activity and movement because I believe the body was created to move. I desire for my students to learn physical activities they can participate in over the course of their lifetime. I also want to educate them as to the reasons they should be active. I strive to show students their physical well being is directly related to their academic performance. Engaging in physical activity strengthens their cardiovascular system. When their heart is strong, it promotes blood and oxygen circulation, which means nutrients their body needs get to important organs like their brain. When their brain gets what it needs, their attention span increases and they are better able to learn in their classes. Physical Education inspires student to participate in sports outside of school. Interacting with their friends as part of a team gives them a sense of belonging, which makes them feel better about themselves; their self esteem improves. Learning to work together and cooperate with others in a team setting transfers positively to other areas of their life. |
